Though God is Spirit, Scripture sometimes speaks of Him in human terms to describe some of His actions in ways humans can understand.
This is called anthropomorphism
anthropomorphism-: an interpretation of what is not human or personal in terms of human or personal characteristics
As I was sitting and thinking about the greatness of God this morning, Isaiah 66 came to mind…
“This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?”
Isaiah 66:1 NIV
Think about that. A king has a throne and he has a footstool. Heaven is God’s throne. This is the seat of the divine Majesty…where His glory is most evident. There he keeps his court (angels and other creatures). From there, He dispenses His majestic power and government over the entire creation.
The Earth is his footstool… which is under his feet. This is subject to him and at his disposal. Usable at his pleasure.
These things represent the majesty, sovereignty, and vastness of God, who made all things, and governs the universe… but know this… He CAN NOT be contained by any of it!
What a thought! I’m speechless! I just wanted to share.
