Love Well

“But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”

2 Peter 3:8-9 NLT

God has been teaching me a lot lately. One of the things that he has been teaching me is how to deal with other people. So often, I hear people around me talk about how they don’t want to deal with other people….And If I can be honest, I know the feeling all too well.

The more I grow in relationship with the Lord, the more I want to tell others about him! The more I experience his goodness, the more I want people to know how to experience the same. But sometimes, I feel like God’s word falls on deaf ears. This can be frustrating when dealing with others. It leads me into that attitude of “Why can’t people just understand.” But then, God stopped me right in my tracks! As I was talking to one if my friends, God led her to send me the scripture above. It hit me like a ton of bricks…. I was once that person! I am still that person!

I haven’t always craved righteousness. I haven’t always wanted to live a holy lifestyle. God’s word fell on my dead ears for years! But God was so patient with me! So, why is it so hard for me to understand why people aren’t understanding? I should be the last one to get frustrated. God has to be patient with me while he teaches me to be patient with his people.

As I sit and meditate on this scripture, I simply thank God that he is patient with us no matter where we are in life. God loves us so much and doesn’t want to see anyone perish. I’ve only been walking with him for a little under 3 years…yet, he has had thousands of years of dealing with disobedient people. Now, that’s what I call patience!

Today, give others more grace. Be patient with people because is so patient with us!
