I went to see creed 2 last week. It is a great movie. Not only is it a great movie, it is filled with many lessons and it showed me a lot about myself. I know you’re probably thinking how a boxing movie could teach me a lot about myself. After all, I don’t box…never have.

Well, there was a line in the movie that stuck out to me. I have been repeating it all weekend up until this very moment. I can’t remember it word for word but it went a little something like this…”A sign of a real fighter is that they can keep getting up, even through the pain.”

I began to reflect on my life. Ever since I was a young girl, it has been a series of blows. Each blow made me feel more and more pain. Each blow was intended to make me weaker. Each blow was meant to defeat me. But you know what, I got up each time. I’m sure the devil thought he had me. Especially when he threw something that almost took me out. I bet he could ‘t believe I got up that last time. His whole team thought they’d won. They thought I was out of the fight.

As I look back over my life and some of the things that I fought through, I know it was God. Sometimes I couldn’t figure out why I was getting up. Sometimes, like Adonis Creed, I didn’t know why I was fighting in the first place.

Recently, I looked back at my family line and noticed it was full of generational curses. Where were the blessings that could be passed down. No where in sight. Then, I looked at myself and I said, “It stops here. You will fight for your life, for the lives of those around you and for the ones after you.” My heart beats to win! Sometimes, I ask God, why me? Why am I different. Why am I choosing to live my life differently? Then he showed me that life is all about choices.

Will I choose to follow MY will or will I choose HIS will?

I believe that is what God asks each one of us. You have to decide today. If you choose your will, yes, it will feel great… but only for a moment. If you choose God’s will, it may be scary because his plans are not your own, but his plan will always get you the victory! Not only does God ask you to fight, but he will show you what you’re fighting for!

What will you choose today? Are you a real fighter? What are you fighting for?

“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit that lives in the world. 1 John 4:4 NLT

  1. Amen! I took inventory of my family years ago, and decided to pray over my children concerning health and their finances. They are both doing better. Both attend church, but spiritually they can do better. This was a good word!
