Character Training

God often speaks to me through dreams. After coming back to Christ, I began to dream of being back in high school. I have come to know that whenever I dream about school, God is telling me that a lesson is coming. Each level of school represents the maturity of the lesson. So, how did I start in high school?? Well, the day that I came back to Christ, God filled me with enough wisdom, knowledge and understanding that would take years to understand in the natural. He redeemed all of my lost years in less than a second. For that, I am grateful.

These past 2 years have been nothing but lessons. I supernaturally advanced from milk to meat. Eventually, God had to put me through the test.  For a few months, he was quiet and I couldn’t figure out why. Then I kept hearing, “the teacher is quiet while the student is testing.” Well, recently, God began to speak to me again. In real life, I am an anxious test taker. It doesn’t matter how long and hard I’ve prepared, I doubt my ability. But when I was finished with the test, God reassured me of who I am and that I had passed.

You want to know the next thing God revealed? With new levels there are new lessons. My dreams have shifted. I am now dreaming about college. God didn’t waste his time starting with the lessons either. I like to call this season, “character training.”

The past couple of weeks, I have been humbled twice! To be honest, it hurt! But then I realized what God was doing. Today, a wise person said, “A great platform means nothing if the leader has not undergone character training!” I almost fell out of the chair because I knew God was speaking to me! Not just me, but so many others. We want a great platform, but we must also know that it is not God’s desire to take us where our character can’t keep us!

We often feel like we know our own heart but the bible says this…

The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” Jeremiah 17:9-10 NLT

The word “heart” in this passage comes from the hebrew word lêb, meaning the feelings, the will and the intellect. It’s the very center of your being. You think you know your true intentions until God puts you in a position that uncovers them! Everything you do should be for God’s glory, not your own.

Is your heart in the right place today? If you’re unsure, invite God to search your heart. Allow him to point out anything that offends him. Be prepared because he will test you. But when you pass, nothing will be able to tear down what God has built!
