New Things

Saturday night, I sat in the room that I grew up in. It was my last night with my family before I headed back to my home. I began to drift away in my thoughts. Getting lost in thought wasn’t new for me, but I’d usually get to a point where I would stop. Not this time though. I sat and let myself imagine.

To give you some context, I’d just watched a fantasy movie that involved made up worlds and things that were supernatural. Fantasy/supernatural movies are my favorite! Growing up, I’d always wanted to have super powers and I’d always imagined i’d came from somewhere else.

Ok, back to my Saturday night….I sat and thought about those made up worlds and how I longed to see and experience new things. I eventually became a bit saddened. I had been feeling like my life was on a movie reel playing the same thing over and over again. I was tired of seeing the same old movie….

I eventually went to sleep and woke up Sunday morning not really thinking about the night before. I went to the church that I grew up in and as I listened to one of the deacons, something he said hit me hard. I’d heard it said a hundred times before at church, but this time, it had new meaning. He said, “Each day I wake up, life is brand new.” I immediately knew that God had sent a message.

Every day that we wake up, we are experiencing something that we have never experienced before. Although God has, we have never seen the day that we are currently in! I’m not sure why, but that was a revelation for me. Another thing I had to remember is that I am in an active battle. The enemy doesn’t want us to see the blessing of being alive, especially as one of God’s children. We are fighting a spiritual battle. And what I love about this is that I actually do have super powers! I put on my spiritual armor every day!

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I fight battles in a realm that most people cannot see! Do I look forward to these battles? No, but I get excited to know that a great power lives within me and it’s the same power that raised my savior to life! It’s the power that strengthens me to overcome. It’s the power that gives me my supernatural ability! It’s the same power that comforts me in a time of trouble. It’s God’s spirit! And his spirit has allowed me to see what I cannot see in the physical.

So, each day I wake up, I thank God for a new day. It’s a day that some people won’t see. Each day that I see, I have work to do, battles to win and a beautiful abundant life to live!

Happy Monday! Be thankful for the newness of today!
